Over 500 fintech startups across multiple categories and counting. Nearly US$900 million raised in capital in the last 7 years, twice the amount garnered by any other African tech sector. And thousands of adopters with millions still yet to be served. The meteoric rise of fintech in Africa is transforming lives and economies, unleashing innovation, bolstering trade and propelling an upsurge of financial inclusion across the continent.

Africa Fintech Summit 2021 brings together the innovators, financial executives, entrepreneurs, investors, global corporations, and policymakers driving the ongoing growth of fintech in Africa and shaping the future of digital commerce and technology on the continent.

With seasoned speakers, rich perspectives and expansive experiences from years of operating at the intersection of finance and technology, this summit looks to spark conversations on how stakeholders can better leverage technology and innovation in finance to improve the well-being of Africans, societies, and economies, while improving digital interactions and deepening value.

Every session at the Africa Fintech Summit is designed to hand participants – whether entrepreneurs, investors or policymakers – the tools necessary to scaling technology-backed commerce and financial inclusion solutions on the continent. The sessions are hands on, and are built to leave nothing uncovered. All spheres of financial services are covered in depth by industry experts from financial institutions, fintechs, investors, analysts and solutions providers. The sessions will give you real insights into what the future holds for Fintech in Africa.

The value-driven panels, roundtable discussions, keynotes, and networking sessions focus on delivering insights to innovators on the opportunities worth seizing, and ways to overcome challenges mitigating the offering of better financial technology solutions for Africa.

Investors are exposed to promising startups at the Alpha Expo, an exhibition of the newest fintech solutions in the African space, demos, and a special ecosystem tour (more on this shortly). Policy makers and big corporations involved in the African financial space get a broad view of trends critical for forming regulations and operational strategies as well.

Beyond serving as a hive for industry-specific insights, the Africa Fintech Summit has proven to be a reliable launchpad for startups, and a growth enabler for established corporations. In the past five editions, the summit has facilitated a capital raise of over US$20 million for African startups and the initiation of strategic business partnerships.

In line with the summit’s goal to spotlight relevant issues in the hopes of charting the future of fintech on the continent and building an economically resilient Africa, the central theme of this year’s edition is fostering mutually beneficial relationships between the North African and Sub-Saharan fintech ecosystems.

In addition, various sessions will explore the issues and fintech categories currently shaping the African and global fintech landscapes. The discussion topics at the Africa Fintech Summit include:

– The future of Neobanking

– Alternative financing – Funding African innovation

– Banks and fintechs: collaboration or competition?

– Insurtech: A new focus on insuring the traditionally uninsurable

– African fintechs expanding globally

– Building the next African tech unicorn

– Emergence of Central Bank Digital Currencies

– The Asian-African Fintech Ecosystem Connection and other interesting subjects.

This year’s edition takes attendees to Cario, Egypt. Recently, the Egyptian tech ecosystem has flourished. For instance, Fawry became the country’s first unicorn in 2020. Also, 24% of venture capital funding in the MENA region went to Egypt. Undoubtedly, one of the world’s most historical nations now has a fast-growing tech ecosystem ripe for exploration.

Consequently, the summit will feature an ecosystem tour that will expose venture capital investors to the geography, regulatory framework and vast potential of Egypt’s startup ecosystem.

The turnout at the Africa Fintech Summit over the years, feedback from participants and ecosystem impact point to one fact – the Africa Fintech Summit is the continent’s premier fintech event. The Africa Fintech Summit has recorded attendance of nearly 3000 fintech stakeholders and enthusiasts over the last five editions. The event has featured over 100 speakers and panelists and 26 early-stage startup exhibitions which participants have linked to improved fundraising and partnership opportunities.

Reviews for the event have also been glittering. A survey conducted at the end of the 2019 Washington D.C edition revealed that a whopping 94% of attendees were “very likely to return the following year.” 75% of participants attested that they had made “new connections that directly benefited their businesses.” Adam Bate, CEO of Paga, Ethiopia, referred to the 2019 edition in Ethiopia as the “best fintech conference organised in Ethiopia to date.”

The stage is set for this year’s Africa Fintech Summit edition to attract similarly raving reviews and impressive results. With sessions diversified for optimal engagement and impact, get set to:

– Listen to rich keynotes, panel and roundtable discussions brimming with leading industry insights, expert experiences, actionable takeaways and intelligent forecasts.
