AFTS Cairo 2021: Africa’s Premier Fintech Event Returns this November

by 4 November 2021

The sixth Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS) will take place at the St. Regis hotel in Cairo, Egypt on November 16, 2021. The Summit takes place as the world heals and evolves from the COVID-19 pandemic, and as Africa’s fintech industry begins to hit its inflection point of growth and accelerate its worldwide relevance.

This event will bring together over 70+ different speakers and is expected to garner the largest AFTS audience ever. This past year saw a wave of progress for countless African fintechs, from America’s Stripe acquiring Paystack, to the inclusion of Chipper Cash, Flutterwave, and Fawry into the exclusive club of African-born unicorns. As African fintechs are scaling their customer bases and implementing innovative services, AFTS is scaling its reach and audience because the future of the industry in Africa is not bound by the shores of the continent.

AFTS Cairo 2021 seeks to cover all the major topics and trends driving the advancement of the fintech industry, including:

● Decentralized Finance as both a tool and asset class
● Global expansion of African startups
● Emergence of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC)
● Fintech’s ability to help tackle climate change
● Integration of Islamic finance into fintech
● New focus by foreign investment capital on the continent
● And more!

AFTS Cairo 2021 will feature the Startup World Cup regional pitch competition, in partnership with Pegasus Tech Ventures in Silicon Valley,. Startups from across the continent will have the opportunity to compete for a place in the 2022 Startup World Cup Global Final competition, where the winner will receive a US$1 million in equity investment.

The day after the conclusion of AFTS Cairo 2021, international investors will have the opportunity to participate in this year’s local ecosystem tour on November 17. This year’s tour is titled, “Investing in Egyptian Innovation Ecosystem Tour,” and will feature stops at GrEEK Campus in Tahrir Square, American University in Cairo’s Venture Lab, and other sites actively working to strengthen the local fintech community.

About AFTS:

AFTS is the premiere global initiative dedicated to the African fintech ecosystem. AFTS is traditionally hosted in Washington, D.C., each April during the World Bank/IFC annual meeting week and in a different African city each November (most recently, Lagos and Addis Ababa). In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, AFTS has elected this year to host a single-day summit in Cairo, Egypt.

Supported by an advisory board of thought leaders and fintech pioneers, AFTS is a unique space where innovative ideas are debated, investments mobilized, partnership deals signed, and collaborations formed across sectors and geographies.

This year’s AFTS is organized in partnership between Washington, D.C., strategic advisory group Dedalus Global and Pan-African investment advisory firm Ibex Frontier.
